Honing my embossing skills

I’m in the process of taking an online card class from Online Card Classes HW_participant-1 . It’s a class focused mainly on heat embossing techniques and skill development. Each day’s lesson is unique and shows the extreme talent the instructors have.

As homework, we are to create a card using some of the techniques used in that Day’s class.

  • Day 1 – I chose to stamp and heat emboss a black background of bouquet of flowers, then watercolor stamp the colors of the flowers. The flower stamp set is from Rubbernecker Stamps. For the sentiment I heat embossed and then lightly and sparsely heat embossed the edges of the sentiment outline to give it a rustic look.

  • Day 2 – Today’s class focused on heat embossing with different materials; glue, tape, water. I used a stamp set from Penny Black & the sentiment is part of a die set from Spellbinders. I embossed in black ink and then using the technique taught today, spotted glue on the flower petals and on the butterfly. Used a dark blue embossing powder on the flower and sentiment at the bottom and a gold on the butterfly.

Another technique they introduced to me today was the use of glue tape for a border and then embossing. I really like the way that turns out. It gives it sort of a leather look. Finally, with the sentiment, I used a technique they show us yesterday and die cut the word Thanks, then covered it with glue and clear embossing powder to give it a raised, shiny look.
